READING HISPANIC LITERATURE IN SPANISH SERIES
Spanish-American Short Stories (El cuento latinoamericano)
This high-intermediate Spanish course is designed as a survey of 20th-century Latin-American short stories. Learners will become familiarized with some of the major literary themes while reading and discussing works by renowned writers, such as Julio Cortázar, Jorge Luis Borges, Elena Poniatowska y Mario Benedetti, among others. Live classes will focus on reading and listening comprehension, text analysis and discussions. Homework will consist of vocabulary exercises and writing activities.

SPANISH FOR TOURISM SERIES
This elementary Spanish language course aims at introducing students to the Spanish language. It is also a good review for those who would like a fresh start into the Spanish language journey. Chapters 1-6 from the textbook Turismo 1 - Curso de Español para profesionales, SGEL, Spain, will be covered during this course. This textbook is designed after the European Framework of Reference for Languages and includes audio files available online. Participants will practice describing indoor and outdoor places, asking for directions and information at the airport, checking in at the hotel, ordering food at a restaurant, expressing opinions and discussing the schedule. Cultural components about different parts of the Spanish-speaking world will be presented through audiovisual materials. Weekly homework will be assigned. Offered by Zoom. Chapters 7-12 from the textbook Turismo 1 - Curso de Español para profesionales, SGEL, Spain will be covered during this course. This textbook is designed after the European Framework of Reference for Languages and includes audio files available online. Participants will practice talking about the weather and clothing, comparing things, discussing personal and work relationships, making plans, expressing health related issues and referring to actions in the past. Hispanic Film for Intermediate Spanish Conversation I. This workshop will offer participants the opportunity to further develop listening and speaking skills in Spanish. Activities will be based on a selection of Hispanic films that participants will have watched prior to class, and will include reading interviews with the actors and the directors, exchanging opinions around the main themes, as well as practicing the vocabulary and doing brief reviews of a number of grammatical aspects.
The list of selected films will be provided after registration. Appropriate for adults who master intermediate listening, comprehension, reading and speaking skills in Spanish.
